Dear Apple,
This might be hard to fathom but I have many people in my contacts that I don’t really care about. People from previous phases of my life or just people I’ve fallen out of contact with over the years.
For years I’ve put up with 9am being the time of day I get hit with a slew of notifications about birthdays. I’ve diligently added birthdays to my contacts in the name of correctness/completeness but now I’m being punished for it with these alerts.
I never delete contacts (why would I?) and I dislike the idea of having to move the birthday out of the designated field to a custom/notes field so that you won’t alert me on the day of their birthday. My _only_ option is to turn off notifications for all birthdays which means I don’t get alerts for the people I care about.
Is it so hard to believe that I might want information but not be alerted to it? That I might want to turn off birthday notifications on a per-contact basis?
So now I’ve turned off notifications for birthdays globally and rely on custom calendar events for the people I care about. Great system Apple.
