About
I’m Josh Strange. My day job is engineering manager at Touchpoint, and on the side I run GrubBux, a small company that builds software for food events.
I’ve been building things for fun for a long time, and most of my spare time still goes to it. Lately that means tools I build for myself, a self-hosted home lab that runs a lot of my day, and a 3D printer that I keep pointing at problems around the house.
What I’m working on
- GrubBux handles payments for food festivals and tasting events. Attendees load a balance onto a QR code on their phone or a card, vendors scan it, and nobody has to print, sell, or count paper tickets.
- FoodWeek is an app for restaurant weeks like Burger Week or Pizza Week. It’s the event guide plus a digital passport: visit a participating restaurant, collect a stamp, and qualify for prizes.
- 3D printing. Mostly custom Gridfinity fit-outs for drawers, modelled in code and fitted to whatever actually lives in that drawer.
- The home lab. A server in the basement that runs the services I’d otherwise pay someone else for, tied into Home Assistant.
